Barkatullah University, formerly Bhopal University, was established in 1970 in the capital city of Bhopal. The university's original name was Bhopal University, which was changed to Barkatullah University in 1988 to tribute freedom fighter Barkatullah. It is a government-funded college that also affiliates with colleges from eight other districts. It was accredited with a ‘B’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2015. BU Bhopal provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programmes to its students. The BU Bhopal campus covers approximately 400 acres of land along the highway, about three km from Habibganj Railway Station.
